Soy Nutrition Institute Elects New Officers

The Soy Nutrition Institute (SNI) elected new officers at a recent board meeting in Chicago. Ratna Mukherjea, PhD, the senior group leader of global nutrition for Solae, LLC, was elected president of the SNI. Katy Raneri, M.S., R.D., director of nutrition for WhiteWave, was elected vice president, and Scott Singlestad, a director for the United Soybean Board, was elected Secretary/Treasurer.

The SNI also voted to adopt a new strategic plan, which identifies goals and objectives of the organization. The plan creates three action teams: the Soy Nutrition Research action team, which will determine research priorities and formalize the process for funding soy research; the Partnerships action team, which will develop new affiliations with industry, academia, and non-governmental organizations; and the Communications action team, which will disseminate evidence-based information on soy and health.

"This is an exciting time for the Soy Nutrition Institute," said Mukherjea. "Our new strategic plan will help us move forward as we bring key players together to focus on research needs and priorities."

The SNI was formed to assist the U.S. soybean industry in collecting and disseminating science-based soy-related nutrition information. Its mission is to identify research priorities, facilitate the development and funding of targeted research projects, and provide evidence-based information on the impact of soybeans and soy components on human health.

The SNI is funded by the United Soybean Board, with additional support provided by dues from industry stakeholders. In addition to the USB, members include Solae, Archer Daniels Midland, Co.,  Pharmavite, WhiteWave, the Soyfoods Council and the Soyfoods Association of North America.
